Using Wordles as Graphics on Your Blog

by Jeff on August 20, 2011

Ask any blogger who knows how to build traffic and they will tell you that using graphics on your blog is an absolute must.

Why? Because:

  • People pay attention to graphics
  • People learn from graphics
  • People respond to graphics

If you are like most people who are giving blogging a try you may jump over to Google Images and throw any graphics on your blog that look like they could be kind of cool.

Not the best strategy to take.

Mainly because the graphic you use on your blog post needs to convey the message you are sending with your words. It has to tie into the content.

Not to mention, the image may be under copyright. But that is a different topic altogether.

Using your own graphics on your blog

The safest bet to avoid copyright issues and to make sure that your graphics fit what you are trying to say in your post is to create your own graphics.

That’s right, fire up Adobe Illustrator or whip out that Leica camera and get your self some images!

Ok, that’s great for the artists but what about the rest of us? Are we screwed?

No. We have Wordle.

Wordle is a neat little app that turns your written content into a cool graphic depicting the importance of the words used. For example, in the wordle below you can see that the word business is larger than most while problem is rather small.

So from the content that created this wordle, the word business occurs more often than the word problem.

How can you create wordles?

Since wordles are taken right from written content, they are perfect graphics to use on your posts. And they are extremely easy to create.

Simply go to http://wordle.net and either:

  1. Cut and paste your content into the available area
  2. Enter the URL to have wordle pull the content for you
